Brief

Fuse elements of the Cape vernacular architectural style with more contemporary "clapboard" architecture required by the estate guidelines. Houses should respond to local climatic conditions and views of the Noordhoek valley – all within the context of the strict architectural guidelines of this waterside estate.

Realisation

One of the original studios appointed to complete work within the estate, Simon McCullagh Architects has now completes over 140 houses on Lake Michelle since 2001. This gives us a deep understanding not only of the architectural guidelines of Lake Michelle, but also of the lake's unique and often challenging soils, drainage requirements and climactic conditions.

Lake Michelle has won numerous awards of excellence and is considered a model estate. Now that more than half the planned houses are either in planning or under construction, the architectural and urban design character can be seen developing.
